With the events of eleven years ago in everyone's minds at this time of the year it's poignant that this church today in the little town of Nikea remembered another tragic September. In a beautiful service, which a friend of mine told me about, this church remembered today the millions of people whose lives were either lost or displaced exactly 90 years ago at this time in the ancient motherland of Greece, Asia Minor.

And the St. Nicholas Church in New York City that was destroyed that day...
My question is... will we ever learn?
I am only so glad to hear that the St. Nicholas church in Nikea, Greece is remembering those millions who were lost to the world...90 years ago...

Very poignant...
It really is something how both of these tragic events took place just a few days (albeit and 79 years) apart from each other.
Brings to mind the often asked question: Will people ever learn...?

Those images are permanently imprinted in my mind. My husband and I were in Budapest Sept 1-6, 2001, for my work. Thankfully, we were invited to a very special wedding on September 8th so we left right after the meeting rather than taking our usual side trips. Had it not been for the wedding we would have been stranded in Budapest for several weeks. We didn't remember the Greek church next to the WTC was named St. Nicholas....

Such tragedies, we can only hope and pray that there will be no more

Just so you know, St. Nicholas at the WTC is being rebuilt! After 10 years of pushing for it, it will finally happen.

I like the twin spires.on the church. When the towers were demolished I was teaching in a first grade class and unsure of what to say, hiding my emotions.

Pleased to read from Dora that the church is NY is being rebuilt. Will we ever learn? I think we will, though it may take some time.
