Today's "sighting" of a Saint Nicholas Church Around the world comes to us from Bethany at Sweet Bee Buzzings!
Now this is a church with both a history and a future! It is not only the oldest church in the beautiful seaside town of Brighton - the above structure dates from the mid 1300's - but a visit to the church's website will show that it is a church whose doors are opened wide to worshipers today.

The Ancient Parish Church and Mother Church of the City
Our church, the ancient Parish Church, the mother-church of Brighton is dedicated to St Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, patron saint of fishermen and sailors, children, pawnbrokers and Russia. A church with this dedication has been the centre of Christian worship in Brighton for the past nine centuries and you will be most welcome to attend any of our services and activities detailed on this site.
The Church is more than a building however splendid it might be and St Nicholas houses a lively, committed and growing congregation.
Now this has to be something to make the dear old saint, Nicholas of Myra, glad!

I am especially touched by this St. Nicholas Church's website. The Icon of the saint superimposed above an interior view of the church on this header is a continuation of this good saint's work that somehow, I feel would make him very happy. He would be honored to have this church, indeed, all that I have highlighted in this series, dedicated to the memory of the work he did all in the Lord Jesus Christ's name.

OMC how amazing something this beautiful could be built basically w/o any of the modern building tools and machinery. They knew how to build them to last too.

Wonderful info! I love traveling through a town and noticing the old churches with such lovely architecture. They seem so much more reverent than today's glass and streamlined churches. It's just my preference. :)
