Today we are travelling to Japan in our look at St. Nicholas Churches Around the World! Located in Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture, this beautiful church building was built in 1992. It is designed to resemble Noah's Ark and it most certainly does look like a ship plowing through the waves! It is aptly named in St. Nicholas's honor - he is the patron saint of sailors after all.
It is a United Episcopal Church and holds services each Sunday.
Please visit it's website for more information.

Very pretty.
It amazes me how many different styles all these churches are. I am so used to a typical shape that the more modern buildings take some getting used to. Diane
That truly does look like Noah's ark! You find the most amazing churches to feature... and I just love the variety!
Ann what a pretty St. Nicholas...and in Japan to boot. That was surprising.
Give Edward a hug from us.
Hugs Madi and Mom

Dear Ann
It is so amazing to me how many churches have a history behind them. Each unique in it's own way. Thank you for sharing this.

Hi Ann,
First I have to tell you how much I loved Edward's weekly post. Oh how he must have wanted to get out and talk to those little trespassers! That was so cute!
I loved the beautiful St. Nicholas church in Katakolo. And then to see this very interesting Noah's Ark look a like in Sopporo. What an interesting design for a church. Have you seen this done in other cities? I find this church fascinating.
Hugs to you from here...
Japan too? HOW COOL IS THAT! I was in Japan about 31 years ago! I love that culture and its people. How is sir Edward today and you, yourself dearest?

This one is a really modern design and the altar is plain but never the less lovely.

Lovely pictures, sweet Ann. I love churches, they have something mysterious. I adore the beautiful windows too. Always step into at least one church when visiting a foreign country or even city.
Have a happy weekend!
Love to you xxxx

When I first saw the picture, I immediately thought it looked like a ship and I was right! lol Well...the ark, to be exact:-) I love that they built it this way and named it after St. Nicholas.
Hope all is well with you, dear Ann. Have a wonderful weekend:-) xoxo

So many beautiful St. Nicholas churches in so many places around the world and such varying styles. The modern buildings have a beauty of their own, but I like the more classical styles best.
