St. Nicholas Cathedral
Brisbane, Australia

Let's travel across the world today to beautiful Australia!
This is a photograph of Australia's first Russian Orthodox Church. In just two years (2013) it will be 90 years old which means it was constructed in 1923.

And in the 1970's...
(The church is situated in the middle behind the tall tree)
With skyscrapers in the background...
Many thanks to the St. Nicholas Cathedral's website for these photo's.
The cathedral has currently opened a bank account for donations to help Russians there who suffered during the devastating January floods... This assistance is most definitely in keeping with the cathedral's namesake... St. Nicholas dedicated his life to meeting the needs of others.
Please visit the website for more photographs and information about this beautiful - and giving - St. Nicholas church.
And many prayers to the people of Australia during these very trying times...

It would be a neat thing to see from far away--kind of like a beacon :)

I like that you bake a cake for Vday I think that's a great idea!! Mark will probably most likely get some swiss chocolate, a bottle of wine and a homemade dinner :)

Unusual colours for a cathedral but it makes it so very interesting. Diane

Ciao Ann!
Like Bethany, I love the green roof! Makes this a unique image, thanks for posting pix.
I have been to that Church! How wonderful that you have featured somewhere from my hometown! You are so sweet thinking of us at the moment too. I don't know what is going on over here with the weather but the whole country is having problems. I wish winter would arrive soon!
Best wishes always,
Natasha.
It's a beautiful cathedral. It was built the same year my dad was born.
What a beautiful church! The colors really make it stand out.
Another great post. Thank you.

Love the Russian churches, they are so beautiful ! xx
Hi Ann, Beautiful cathedral... I have a great blog friend who lives in Brisbane.. Wonder if the latest flooding and/or cyclone which hit that area recently did any damage to that beautiful church.
Thanks for sharing, Ann...
Hugs,
Betsy
I'm enjoying the various churches ...
and your little kitty looks very much at peace.
I love that photo of the 1st Parishioners -- a peek into the past!
This is a great series! :)
What a beautiful church! It's really awful about Australia's weather woes! It's a terrible thing to be flooded. It happened to us in 2004 and took many months and much money to get things back to normal! It's like life continues, but for those who were flooded it's such a very slow process to get things going again. I feel for them.
I've enjoyed seeing all the St. Nicholas churches, but especially love this one with the beautiful roof...and because it's in my birth country, Australia.
Queenslanders have experienced such an ordeal with the dreadful floods and then that terrible cyclone. My heart goes out to them.
I was amazed to read that you were in NY City on 9/11 and witnessed that horrific event. How terrifying! And how tragic that the little church is not being rebuilt. I hope and pray that situation will be resolved in their favor.
