Sled Full of Presents

As many of you might have noticed, I have given the name of my blog an add-on:
St. Nicholas and Christmas - All Year Long
I've done this because neither St. Nicholas nor Christmas is just for this season leading up to the celebration of Christ's incarnate birth. Most all would agree that both the saint, Nicholas of Myra, and even more the commemoration of Christ's birth, must be in our hearts and minds year round.
With this in mind I'd like to introduce some of you (because I'm sure others of you know of it!) to a most wonderful charity that gets it start at this time of the year but is continued throughout the year:
Part of Catholic Charities NY, not only does this initiative, through its Adopt-a-Family program, seek to make the celebration of Christmas itself - something we all want for our families - a happier occasion for many families through giving essentials but it continues to offer support to those families adopted throughout the whole year!
Happy Children - What Could Be Better?

Now this is something to write home - or blog! - about!
Please follow the link for more information or contact the very nice Kathleen McGowan at:

This charity, inspired by St. Nicholas great generosity, is located in North America. During the next few weeks I am going to travel around the globe looking at other charities that have been inspired by our dear Nicholas of Myra. Next week, we are going to visit Africa!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Many blessings!
Ann

This is fantastic! It really brings home exactly what St. Nicholas stands for; all that he accomplished in his life and continues to do so even today! Great idea and such a worthy cause! :)
Looking forward to our trip to Africa next week ;)
Kudos to the St Nicholas Project!
Look forward to hearing more from around the world! xx
Hi Ann,
What a wonderful surprise, your blog! I will certainly follow you and do a lot of a reading back on your blog.
Over the weekend I will hopefully post a story on childhood memories on 'Sinterklaas'.
Have a nice day!
Jacoba
I heartily encourage everyone to make a contribution to Catholic Charities! The work they go goes on all year long. Please contribute to them not just at Christmas but in July, or May or any time!!! Wonderful post, Ann!!! Cathy
Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment. Your blog is informative and interesting although I have to confess it is not a subject that I have indulged in but I found your writing absorbing. Good luck with the publication and I wish you every success.
What a beautiful post. We have not heard of The St. Nicholas Project what a wonderful organization.
Happy Weekend Madi and Mom
a year-round state of mind and heart...what a good thing!!! The spirit and goodwill should last all year. We should all do it; or at least try it.
have a wonderful weekend!
Ann I loved this. Yes, Christmas cannot, is not, was never meant to be a one time a year celebration.
This charity sounds wonderful.
hugs
This post reminded me of the celebration of St. Nicolas day on my childhood, on the 6th of December. It is a very old Slavic traditions, and St Nicolas, dressed in red, carrying a pastoral staff, would bring us many presents.:)
Thank you so much for your visit to my place today and for such a lovely comment.;))
Have a lovely Friday,
xoxo
I work for Catholic Charities, and am so happy to see this! If anyone's in the New York area, we're hosting our annual St. Nicholas Project Shopping Day at the Astor Place K-Mart and are still looking for volunteers. With the funds that are raised throughout the year for this project, volunteers "shop for a cause" to give families in need a warm and happy Christmas.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
Always a delight to visit you here, but particularly at this time of year...how true about the spirit of Christmas needing to be a year around endeavor...in what comes from our hearts daily as well as our support for such worthy charities all throughout the year. Hope your holiday season is overflowing with joy and blessings.

The St. Nicholas project what a wonderful way to keep the spirit alive.
Hi Ann,
Back again. Something went wrong this morning and my first comment disappeared into cyberspace for ever, the second one appeared twice on your blog. Sorry!
I am back to tell you that you will see on my reading list how the Dutch blogs will be bouncing with news, experiences and memories on 'Sinterklaas'. One of them is on this lovely blog http://hoorndesovervloeds.blogspot.com/ , the post of 1 December.
Enjoy!
Jacoba
You took the words out of my mouth! Hey thanks for spreading the word about the charity!
Kim
There are some similar projects in our area, but these are mainly during the holidays. The St Nicholas Project seems to make more sense in that it helps families throughout the year, not just for one holiday period.
Oh Ann dearest,
HOW RIGHT YOU ARE...this spirit of giving and seeking illumination of wonder should be celebrated ALL YEAR LONG! I love how you have taken this topic and have decided that you are going to honor it always. THANK YOU for your enthusiastic visit. Oh dearest, I was so tired and I could not think of how to put my thoughts together; I am unsatisfied with my post. BUT, thank you for complementing it and my GRANDMOTHER! Wasn't she so lovely?
I am trying to add you to my bloglist and I am having trouble. I also, BY ACCIDENT, disabled the sound on my computer last night, so the song I selected, IL EST NÉ LE DIVIN ENFANT is one of my all time favorites, but the version I selected, I couldn't listen to it! AHHH! Too tired I guess...my magic fingers hit the delete button while I was on my playlist! Whoops!
Have a splendid day my friend, Anita
Hi Ann, what a wonderful charity! Yes, truly in the spirit of St. Nicholas and Christmas. I mailed my girls their little St. Nicholas gift (just cookies and candies) yesterday, hopefully will arrive by Monday. Of course, my youngest won't get hers till she gets back from China, but that's ok, it will be a nice welcome home surprise. I'm going to do a little St. Nicholas tribute on Monday, any suggestions? Have a wonderful weekend, Hugs and blessings, Nan
Hello Ann,
What a lovely blog you have. I like it.
Also want to say welcome to you in my blog, and thanks for your nice comments.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.
Greetings, Berit.
What a lovely post, a marvelous project...and such an interesting blog. Thank you for sharing with us. I used to work for Catholic Charities, actually it was called Catholic Community Services where I live, and I directed the Adoption Program. I got to see first hand, all the wonderful gifts they give to my community! I will 'follow' and visit you again soon, and thank you for visiting me!
Great post. I'll pass the info on to my spouse. She does somewhat similar work here for Christmas in Fillmore County. Her share is to buy presents for the children of 35 families in need.
On another note thanks for stopping by my little nature blog. Baron the GSD gets more than is share of posts and comments as his is quite often the "star" of my birding and other nature walks. I hope you get a chance to have another GSD. Its hard to lose such loyal friends. I had to wait a year after losing my Chessapeak Bay Retriever. I gave up hunting, took up birder (with binocs) and then got my first GSD. What a friend he is....
I'm happy you added all year long to the header and you're so right; the spirit of giving should not only be around Christmas time, but indeed all year long! The St. Nicholas project sounds is a wonderful idea and thanks for introducing me to it. XX
